Born in 1967, in Texas, Alldrege was raised from birth to be an artist by his mother, a professional artist and lay minister. Having begun his career at age 12, he aptly applied his art scholarship (TACEF Best Young Artist in Texas) to attend seminary. Reclusive and self taught, he is the consummate outsider.
Alldredge says, "I remember, as a five year old boy, sitting at a kindergarten table with an emptied box of crayons before me. My mind sees 2, 0, 3-4, 9, and 7. This was the first signpost of a journey to creatively solve the grand design. My life is an expression of my attempt to wrestle what I sense and see into submission.”
Continuing his investigation of processual abstraction, Alan Alldredge's newest work features flowing pathways of texture, reflection, and illusion. Taking cues from crystals, foliage, flowing water, and the human form, this exciting work reinforces a belief that beauty is part of the sacred. Alldredge calls his work "cast monoprints" . By treating printing blocks as molds, each one is filled and painted with exotic materials and fused onto various textiles."I set my pieces up according to past experience using blended mediums that are purposefully incompatible. With this limited control, I cross my fingers as I press each one."Flowing lines represent a passage into the meditative, and exotic finishes reflect the natural surroundings of his back woods studio. Although complex in its origin, his technique seeks to create a transcendent sacred object.
