Amy R. Peterson is an artist and art teacher, a wife and mother of 3 children. She is a lover of art, music, animals, nature, architecture, antiques, outdoors, travel, and people (but leave the ego at home). As a young and determined artist, Amy used to fantasize about where an art career might take her life; now she smiles at where her life takes her art! Peterson is best known for her paintings of downtown Birmingham, Alabama; the Cahaba River; historical homes and sites; scenes of domestic life; and plein air landscapes. Her works can be found at Regions Bank and the Legacy Art Trail; UAB; Medical Properties Trust; Stewart-Perry; the Gadsden Museum of Art; and in private collections internationally. Her artwork has been featured in regional and national exhibitions by the American Impressionist Society and Oil Painters of America. She coordinates art events around the greater Birmingham area and instructs weekly classes and regional workshops. Combining her interests in art and history, Amy chaired the Alabama Bicentennial art exhibit that toured 10 cities from 2018-2019. She is the President and co-founder of the Cahaba Homestead Heritage Foundation, and in 2023, designed and led the fundraising efforts for three gateway monuments in Trussville's historic district where she resides.
