“The connection of all my animals to my artwork is that I am constantly observing their actions, their personalities, and their anatomy. This allows me to capture their beauty and spirit when sculpting.”Tammy Lynne Penn is a highly respected museum artist with over thirty years of capturing the spirit, strength, and beauty of animals with her breathtaking sculptures.Tammy grew up in Colorado on a farm originally homesteaded by her family in 1872. Animals were an integral part of Tammy’s life from the beginning. Horses, cattle, dogs, cats, birds, and more captured young Tammy’s heart; inspiring her to begin drawing horses at age four. Her drawings grew into sculpting with kiln-fired clay soon thereafter. As Tammy’s sculpting experience grew, she became a respected Western Raku artist. Raku dates to the 1500’s when Zen Buddhist Masters used the process to make their ceremonial teaware. Tammy used western-style raku ceramics to create beautiful mixed media animals, such as blending ceramics with silver or stone. In 1968 Tammy found her creative home with the creation of her first bronze sculpture.Today Tammy owns six horses, two dogs, two cats, an owl, a hawk, a falcon, and a longhorn steer named Gus (named after her great grandfather Gustav). She says, “the connection of all my animals to my artwork is that I am constantly observing their actions, their personalities, and their anatomy. This allows me to capture their beauty and spirit when sculpting.” Tammy’s body of work is on a grand scale, from miniature to monumental. Her cast bronze sculptures evoke a myriad of emotions, from the tenderness of a newborn colt to the playfulness of a young goat. When you look at her artwork you experience love, happiness, and laughter. Other pieces induce feelings of strength, determination, and vulnerability, as well as moments where you find yourself saying ‘awww’. Tammy’s art will move you.Today, Tammy and her husband Hunter live in Texas on their “little slice of heaven” with all their animals.—————————————————————————————————You will find Tammy’s art in private and corporate collections and museums throughout the United States, Europe and Japan.Awards and Museums:Red River Valley Museum International Art Show, Best of ShowAmerican Women Artist’s Competition, Second Place SculptureAmerican Women Artist’s 15th Annual Show, Award of MeritHonorable Mention, Horses in Art magazine cover competitionSpring Foal Crop awarded; Fall 2011 issueRockport Center for the Arts, Rockport, TX41st Annual 2011 Women Artists of the West national juried exhibition; Award of Merit Bull Rush8th Place Ex Arte Equinus 4 International Art Show, Abundance9th Place Ex Arte Equinus 4 International Art Show, The DunOffice of the Mayor, Longmont, CO, Mayor’s Community Positive Impact AwardAbundance donated to Chino, Japan, Longmont’s Sister CityAKC Museum of the Dog, Springfield, MOKeeping the Peace donated to Police K-9 collectionOlaf Wieghorst Museum, El Cajon, CAThree-Dimensional Jury Choice Award, Market Forces40th Annual Women Artists of the West National Juried ShowColiseum, Wichita, KSBest in Show, Little Diva; 1st Place Sculpture and 1st Place Toy Dog CategoryAwarded Juror Position for 24th Annual Art Show at the Dog Show in 201023rd Annual Juried Art Show at the Dog ShowSaks Gallery, Denver, CO1st Place Three-Dimensional Art awarded by Southwest Art Magazine, Little Diva1st Place Juror’s Choice, Market Forces, Women Artists of the West Juried ShowCeltic Art Show, Denver, CO1st Place, Best in Show All Mediums, Shapeshifter, Celtic Art ShowGeese Galore!, Longmont, CO1st Place in “Geese Galore” project, Barley GoddessPeople’s Choice, Barley GoddessMuseum of the Mountain Man, Pinedale, WYVanishing Breed added to permanent collectionBoulder Creek Festival, Boulder, COBest Sculpture, Boulder Creek Festival Fine Art ShowBoulder County Fair, Longmont CO1st Place Sculpture, Horse Goddess, People’s Choice Award, Horse GoddessDenver Expo, Denver CO1st Place Sculpture, Stoneware Horse Vessel, Rocky Mountain Horse ExpoTwin Peaks Mall, Longmont CO1st Place Sculpture, “Horse Trio”, Longmont Artist Guild Spring ShowProfessional Associations:National Sculpture Society, Associate MemberWomen Artists of the West, Associate MemberAmerican Women Artists, Associate MemberSociety of Animal Artists, Associate MemberCatharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, Full MemberAmerican Academy of Equine Art, Elected Associate Member
