American-born artist Michael Earl Anderson (1942-present) is native to the Lake Superior (Copper Country) region of Northern Michigan. He is a Navy veteran and father of three.A graduate of The Rocky Mountain School of Art in Denver, Colorado, he was deeply influenced by its founder, Philip Steele, and his emphasis on working directly from life and how this applies to the human form. Both his fine paintings and past design work show a consistent inclusion of the male or female form, demonstrating the significance impact this has had on him. Anderson continued his studies at the University of Colorado where he perfected advancements in color, color theory and spatial arrangement.Relocating to Hawaiʻi on a spiritual quest, Anderson worked several years, deeply impressed by the natural beauty of native peoples and island terrain, reflected in the hues and tonalities of tropical sunlight and shadow. He appeared later as guest artist in Aloha Magazine. His extended family of artists resides both in Hawaiʻi (Oʻahu and Kona) and in Los Angeles. Anderson continues to work as a fine artist, independently, and exclusively with live models in natural daylight. His style is best defined as transfigurative, as it seeks to merge representational art with the syntax of abstract expressionism in the depiction of the human form.
