Growing up in Clinton, North Carolina, Silas Bradley was captivated at a young age with clay. Since then, ceramics have been his passion. At sixteen Silas began his first apprenticeship in Burgaw, North Carolina, where he started honing his skills and experimenting with various firing techniques. After graduating high school, he continued his artistic journey through a second apprenticeship in Helena, Montana. Now living and working in Charleston, South Carolina while pursuing a degree from the College of Charleston, Silas continues to create one-of-a-kind pieces that are both contemporary and familiar. As a young artist, Silas works to be at the forefront of a new generation of potters in the rich clay history of the Carolinas. He works to develop pottery that speaks to a new generation while showing the craft’s deep connection with the past.Silas creates a bridge between the raw and ornate. Employing both classic and original forms, his art embraces the beauty of individuality. Through utilizing harsh firing techniques, Silas’ work represents the unpolished, unpredictable artistry of the natural world.
