Vermillion is a multi-disciplinary artist. Her visual arts practice started as a make-something-out-of-nothing artist. Her textile art, collages, and assemblages have developed into installations that have an underlying social or political message but also fulfill a need for playfulness, humor, surprise, uniqueness. In 2023 she was in residence in Governors Island where she worked on The Cobalt Blue Shrine installation made out of 1,000 glass bottles and glassware that evolved from an initial piece in memory of her younger brother lost to alcoholism. The deluge of bottles that came her way after she put in a public request swiftly turned her initial plans into an environmental art project. The installation had a performance component in which Vermillion, as a stand-in for Mother Earth, got publicly buried in bottles. Vermillion curated the Mushrooms exhibition at Fountain House Gallery in Spring 2023. In Fall she took the show to London at SHARP Gallery. She is currently facilitating a collaboration called “Coming Out of Isolation” between Fountain House Gallery and Studio with Bethlem Museum of the Mind Gallery, London, resulting in an exhibition in 2026. She is also a proud permanent resident of the FH Studio. As a performer she is in residence at the OBIE award winner Under St Marks Theater. She performs regularly her solo storytelling show, On Cats and Dogs and Other Family Revelations. Her Lovely Shoes improv team hosts the Side-Coached show. As part of the 2025 Gotham Storytelling Festival, she will premiere a collection of stories and monologues Book Spines Broken By My Purring Cat.
