Marcus Manganni is a New York based sculptor and installation artist who is best known for his innovative, site-specific works that confront the crisis of mass incarceration. He has installed permanent sculptures in both public and private spaces worldwide. Light became both the primary medium and subject of Manganni's work during his federal time in solitary confinement. Utilizing a sliver of passing natural light from a distant window he experimented with what little materials he had creating reflective structures placed throughout his cell, allowing him to explore and liberate his physical and social isolation. Manganni is a 2022 Right of Return Fellow and is currently exhibiting at Cleveland Museum of Art. He is also installing a large-scale sculpture for a private estate in Montana, as well as a public commission for Marfa, TX. His latest completions are titled GENERAL POPULATION in Baltimore, MD and QUEENS (A LOVE LETTER) standing parallel to the Queensborough bridge in Long Island City, NY. Manganni is also working on his first artist book and memoir through Nileisist publications. He was a featured artist and selected speaker in the 2019 Young Collectors Contemporary Art Fair and was included in MOCAN's first show in 2018.
