Joe Segal is a North Florida artist who has been creating art for over 20 years. His sculptural works are wall-hung pieces carved from beams with incorporated metal elements. Segal’s minimalist style also lends itself to printmaking where his subtle finishes are drawn from the inherent characteristics of his materials.He was born in New York in 1963 and attended Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida graduating magna cum laude with a B.A. in visual arts. Segal continued his art education by studying bronze casting at the Sculpture Center in New York City and printmaking instruction at Flatbed Press in Austin, Texas and Flying Horse Editions in Orlando, Florida.Segal has been the recipient of numerous honors and awards for his work including a fellowship from the State of Florida in 2001 and several grants from the Jacksonville Community Foundation. He has exhibited his work throughout Florida as well as in Atlanta, New York, and Hawaii. His work is represented in many private and corporate collections including The Forbes Collection in New York, The Lowe Museum in Coral Gables, and The Bass Museum in Miami.
