Born in Calgary, Alberta in 1910 Doris McCarthy was a Canadian artist known for her abstracted landscape paintings. She attended the Ontario College of Arts in the late 20's, and taught in downtown Toronto until she retired in '72. Even working extensively within the Toronto art schools, she was able to travel and paint various landscapes - including many different countries (Spain, Ireland, Costa Rica). Out of her travels and paintings though, she was better known for her depiction of Arctic Icebergs. Her work has been collected and exhibited across Canada and abroad. Being collected by institutions such as National Gallery of Canada, and the AGO. She has a gallery named after her at the University of Toronto Scarborough. She was the recipient of the Order of Ontario and Order of Canada.
