Heather Lancaster (b. 1971) is an artist from and is based in Atlanta, GA. It is with a deep appreciation of form and an insistent curiosity that Heather Lancaster examines intricate, sensitive, and lyrical animal gestures created over time, by varied degrees of specialization within different physical environments. Finely tuned body mechanics and a range of extraordinary design adaptions are carefully considered and rendered with a delicate hand. Through Heather’s own evolving creative process, the figures begin with a single line and are slowly realized with subtle planar shifts and high contrast using layers of graphite, India ink, and charcoal. Venturing beyond strict representation of her subject matter, she explores the abstract nature of lines, shapes, patterns, and values in her large-scale works on paper. Heather’s marks and voice as a visual artist echo her admiration of the perfection attained by the marvel that is natural selection.Heather holds a BA in Art History and Historic Preservation from Mary Baldwin College, Staunton, Virginia (1993). She has had nine sold-out exhibitions with Spalding Nix Fine Art, while maintaining a robust commission-based studio practice. Her work has been featured in Vogue, Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles, House Beautiful and Veranda. Her work is in both private and corporate collections across the United States including Brand Properties, Atlanta, GA, Ashbourne Farms, La Grange, KY, Bohemian Hotel, Savannah, GA, and The Brookwood, Atlanta, GA.
