Hartwig is an emerging Provincetown-based artist specializing in original oil paintings of Cape Cod dunes, marshes, wharfs, and boats. Trained as a religious scholar in Rome, he developed an early appreciation for the great artistic geniuses of the Renaissance and began to experiment with various themes and compositions in 2003. In 2008, he studied with Robert Cardinal who helped bring his work to a new level of maturity, showing the dramatic use of the Cape Cod light, shadow, and color.
