Maggie Stickney grew up on Long Island and attended MassachusettsCollege of Art and Design. After receiving a BFA in printmaking, she movedto NYC and worked toward a graduate degree in Art Therapy. Uponmoving to her husband’s hometown of Fairhope, she rediscoveredpainting. She had previously spent several years designing and creatingcustom fabrics for baby-brands while teaching her own young children art.Stickney paints the natural world, focusing on wetlands. "The curves of theearth, and the contrast of the sharp grass lines fascinate me," she says. While often painting the coast, the artist is drawn to the edge of the twoworlds where land and water meet. She also finds herself creating still lifepaintings of the subtle and simple things surrounding her, like houseplants. Stickney says that finding beauty in the ordinary has always beenher passion.
