AVRIL WARD Avril Ward is an internationally established artist. She was born in the UK and raised in South Africa but Cayman has been her home for 20 years. As a multimedia artist, her art is continually evolving and she utilizes various mediums depending on how she feels each will be fitting to best express her current subject exploration. She usually works in series of usually 20-30 pieces before moving onto another direction. Her diverse interest in life is evident in the 25+ years she has had a career in fine art. Her awe and fascination with nature and science, her observation of the obscure yet obvious and her deep belief in God are just some of the inspirations behind her work.Her popular limited edition bronze sculptures are predominantly long thin, genderless figures, interacting with each other or expressing emotions based on love, their body language very poignant and so subtly formed, yet extremely expressive. Her history as a professional contemporary and jazz dancer has given her this ability to express emotion through slight gesture of the body. She has exhibited and sells worldwide, with clients of movie stars and a USA President. In late 2017, she opened ‘Awardart Gallery’ a contemporary fine art gallery in Grand Cayman, where she showcases not only her own artworks, but those of other fellow artists. Artist statement:I create holistically, incorporating body soul and spirit.I express the nature of the beauty around me-as this is my window to God.I delight in the human body- a marvel that never ceases to amaze. I express love and joy-this keeps them tangible in my life.I have learnt to trust my instincts and skills allowing them to lead me in the right direction. Most importantly: if my art can move a person to pause, think, smile, ponder, question, cry, laugh, bring hope and encourage, and maybe see a glimpse of God’s nature, then I have served my purpose in life.”
