Jason Kennedy is a visual artist who is known for capturing the people of The Caribbean in painted portraits. The content of his artwork is what is most important to him, with his style being considered secondary. He literally paints the sea into his artwork by infusing acrylics with seawater from Seven Mile Beach. When coaxed, he describes his technique as “a loose composite of realism and impressionism,” but the message and the emotion depicted in the subjects in his work are his real focus. His art is an expression of his experiences with meeting people while living in the Cayman Islands, and his travels throughout the Caribbean. Each painting depicts a moment in time, a snapshot of the subject's life in The Caribbean. Jason was born in Canada but is now Naturalized in The Cayman Islands. “All of my inspiration comes from the simplicity of the Caribbean lifestyle. Especially the old ways of living off the sea and the land. The people have stories behind their eyes, their faces. They’re inviting and mysterious. There is something that has always driven me to the Caribbean, which is why I live here full time. I like to think that the “something” is the people. They’re unique and pure.” – Jason Kennedy.
