Katherine’s delicate and evocative monotypes portray nature’s flora in all its glory, from the most organic trees and branches to airily etched florals. They are the result of a perfect (and complicated!) marriage of technical expertise and Katherine’s innate ability to create these light-filled, contemplative pieces."These works on paper are one of a kind. All are hybrids of different techniques, tied together by being created on an etching press, so they are called monotypes. The imagery is created from drawings I make or from organic material I find and scan into the computer. They are then etched and cut into 1/8” birch on an Epilog laser cutter. The resulting shapes are inked individually and printed in unique compositions. Ink washes are used in the background. They are a contemporary variation on woodcut printing, utilizing new technology. Newer work is created using cyanotype process, then overprinted on the etching press."
