John Bunker has been a professional artist for 55 years.His art works are included in numerous museum, corporate, public and private collections inthe United States and abroad. Several corporate collectors include: The Mayo Clinic, AT&TUniversal Card headquarters, First Coast Oncology Center, M D Anderson Cancer Center,Nordstroms Department Stores, Stein Mart Corporate Headquarters, Bank of America, NorthFlorida College, The University of North Florida Libraries Collections, Jacksonville University,The Florida Senate, The Orlando Jetport, the Junior League Riverside House, TimuquanaCountry Club, First Union, The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, The Museum ofContemporary Art Jacksonville, The Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens and in over 400private collections.Bunker has been included in one person and group exhibitions throughout the South, and heand his work has been the subject of numerous newspaper and periodical reviews.As one critic noted, “John Bunker’s work seduces and beckons our attention. Flowers danceand diaphanous figures soar through the vibrant paintings in rich, deep colors accented bymetallic swirls and designs. The subjects of his paintings are “simmering with energy,saturated with fragments of color, and wonderfully alive”.Beyond creating extensive and varied of art works over his career as a professional artist, Johnhas sustained an impressive museum and education career - which included being the longterm associate director and interim director of he former Jacksonville Art Museum and thedirector of the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens.He received his BFA from Florida State University, and his MFA from Vanderbilt University(Peabody College), where he received a fellowship for study in the arts and humanities. He is agraduate of the both the Smithsonian Institution’s Fundamentals of Museum Management andthe J.P. Getty’s Museum Management Institute at the UC Berkeley. He is a graduate of theLeadership Jacksonville Inaugural class.As an active volunteer in the Jacksonville Community, Bunker has served as the president ofthe Riverside Fine Arts Association Concert Board, Chairman of the Koger Gallery of Art andGardens Advisory Board, curator of the JIA Arts Commission, vestry of The Episcopal Churchof the Good Shepherd and volunteer with numerous other agencies and volunteerorganizations.Bunker received the Individual Arts Award from the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville inrecognition of three decades of leadership in the First Coast Community. In 2016 he wasnamed of one of 40 icons in the 40 years initiative for Cultural Jacksonville. He was recognizedin 2020 with the Ann McDonald Baker Art Ventures Award for over 50 years as an “indeliblemark on our cultural community, both through his art and in his leadership positions at theCummer Museum and the former Jacksonville Art Museum.John Bunker’s paintings are represented in Hillary Whitaker Gallery, Ponte Vedra Beach,Florida, Onessimo Fine Arts Gallery in Palm Beach, Florida and Shuptrine’s Gallery inChattanooga , Tennessee.He has maintained his art studio at his Jacksonville residence over these many years.
