(1887- 1957) George William Gage was a painter and prolific illustrator of books and magazines. He was known for his portraits. He also taught the artistry of book illustrating at New York's School of Industrial Art. Magazine illustrations include those for the Saturday Evening Post, McClure's Magazine and Everybody's Magazine as well as two covers for North West Stories magazine. Project Gutenberg lists 20 books illustrated by Gage. The painting, Doña Lona, was used as the cover illustration for a novel based on the life of Doña Tules by Blanche Chloe Grant written in 1941.
