A native Californian, Larrew grew up in NoCal, but moved south at the age of 19. She earned her BFA with honors from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. After graduation, she ran her own design studio for several years and later owned and operated Blue Five Art Space. She has been an active supporter of the Southern California art scene for several years, an impresario supporting many artists through collection, curation and exhibition. While her personal practice remained out of the spotlight these experiences have had impact on her personal artistic development where she has brought the same dedication to tie together her artistic disciplines to ambitious artistic endeavors. The result is a dedication in execution with a sense of play, mastery of compositional design elements, emotional expression and social intent to her subject matter. In the past these have been different branches of her practice creative outlets to aspects of her day life and now are interwoven together in an artistic discipline. A social concept sets the idea, design is used to guide the eye, expression to free the soul, innovation of materials adds dynamism and keeps interest. Nancy’s inherent creativity was fostered by an imaginative extended family. A father who liked to invent things, a mother who was a newspaper columnist and painted landscapes with nail polish, and a grandmother who nurtured her artistic side all contributed to her expressive upbringing.
