American visual artist Ralph Allen Massey was born in 1938, the exact year when action comic figures such as Superman were just being introduced to the world. The artist now has been pushing the boundaries between popular and ‘high’ art for six decades and has exhibited his work throughout America. While blending popular imagery of sculpture, figurines, and lush paintings in an original composition pushing the edges of his paintings into shaped wall sculpture, Massey’s works manipulate and redefine the many familiar icons. Widely known for his tendency to juxtapose contemporary fine art with more comical and playful pieces, the artist has amassed signature appeal amongst popular culture lovers and art collectors alike.
