Manuel Felguérez (born 1928, Valparaíso, Mexico – died 2020, Zacatecas, Mexico) was part of the generation of La Ruptura. In 1947 Felguérez traveled to Europe where he was intrigued by the Bauhaus and Le Corbusier. He studied abstract art which was not in fashion in Mexico at the time. He said his work can be considered as a sort of “pre-sculpture”, a system of symbols and an “auto-productive” system where the author is constantly participating. Indeed, his sculptures resemble three-dimensional realizations of his paintings and prints. His later experimentation with digital art (he was a pioneer in this new medium) allowed him, he said, to explore the possibilities of combining the creative faculty of the artist with the computer’s ability to analyze and systematize, allowing him to accelerate his work. The machine could generate several possible compositions almost simultaneously.
