Damián Lescas (b. 1974, Oaxaca De Juárez, Oaxaca, Mexico) is an artist who works on various mediums such as oil paintings, monotypes, ceramic sculptures, engraved bronze, and wood carvings. His paintings are recognizable with their soft shapes, bold, seductive colors and exquisitely crafted compositions. His work is notable for its sheer visual beauty, erudition and sensuous charm. Lescas plays with mythological, historical, and anecdotal themes in his compositions. In his artwork, he often deals with themes such as food and pleasure. Lescas’ compositions present a cast of beings, objects and complex scenes that relate to a myth or a story, often from ancient or remote areas. Behind every canvas painted, a tale unfolds that may be based on history, mythology or literature, reinvented by Lescas in his personal imagery. In many of his paintings, at least one element of his narrations will be linked to the history of gastronomy, and the relationship between humans, food and drink. Lescas graduated from the School of Fine Arts at the Benito Juárez Autonomous University in Oaxaca. He lives and works in the city of Oaxaca, Mexico.
