Mark Horton, a native of Saginaw, Michigan, was raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Mark received his law degree at the University of Minnesota in 1979. He began taking studio art classes at the University of Minnesota while practicing law. Although Mark found legal work interesting and engaging, his love of painting and art trumped the legal profession. In 1993, Horton quit his legal practice to paint full time. Mark and his wife Barb spent nine months in Spain in 1984, where he studied painting in addition to traveling. In 1985, he and his wife move to Germany for four years. Mark continued painting and had several exhibitions, two of which were reviewed in the press. Mark’s solo exhibition in the Netherlands sold out. In 1989, the Hortons returned to the United States, taking up residence in the Eau Claire area of Wisconsin for the next 18 years. During this time, Horton joined the Groveland Gallery in Minneapolis and the Tory Folliard Gallery in Milwaukee. Horton’s work has often received favorable press attention in Minneapolis, Milwaukee and Eau Claire. In 2007, Mark, Barb and their daughter Claire moved to St Louis, Missouri, where they resided for 12 years. During that time, Mark joined Stellers Gallery in Jacksonville, Florida and Robert Morrissey in St Louis, Missouri. Three years ago, they moved to St Augustine, Florida, where they currently reside. Major commissions include work for Securian, the Midwest Express Center in Milwaukee, Mutual Life Insurance Company, St Paul, the Minnesota Department of Transportation, and the Dakota County Historical Society. Horton’s work is included in numerous corporate, healthcare, business and price collections across the United States.
