Karen Lea Sandifer’s journey began with a love for drawing in her elementary school days and continued with studying Studio Art and Art History at the University of Alabama and Commercial Art and the University of South Alabama. Sandifer's passion for painting people led to a 35-year career in watercolor portraiture, commissioning work for clients all over the country. Armed with knowledge from recent workshops, classes, and a whole lot of experimenting, Sandifer’s art began to take on a new direction. Since 2013, oils have mostly replaced watercolors in her studio, and large landscapes take the place of portraits. She is passionate about painting beautiful cloud-filled skies and sunsets, always striving to capture the atmospheric effect and ethereal quality that draws her to a scene. Sandifer lives in Fairhope, Alabama.
