Barrett Edwards' representational and abstracted landscapes blend layer upon layer of complimentary hues that bounce light depending upon the viewing direction. Using brush, palette knife, sea sponges and other tools, her oils, cold wax and mixed media works range from bold and vibrant to soft and suggested. Her highly textured abstracted landscapes most often are built around color pairings that evolve with analogous notes.Born in Chicago, Barrett is a third generation artist whose award-winning work first drew attention in France. Her introductory exhibition at Hotel Talleyrand, Paris, sold out. That success was followed shortly by exhibits at the historic Salon d'Autumne at the Grand Palais in Paris; the Grand Prix International de Peinture de Deauville, and the Grand Prix International de la Cote d'Azur. She has exhibited at Galerie Jean Lammelin (Paris), Atelier Melusine (Switzerland), and her work has been published in a German calendar. Her paintings have also appeared in the USA Television Network's series, "Necessary Roughness", and in the 2013 Reese Witherspoon movie, "The Good Lie".Spending her summers in the Colorado Rockies for over a decade, Barrett has developed a love of plein air painting, which she credits with bringing new energy and effectiveness to her studio paintings. She is a popular art show jurist and continues to teach oil painting workshops in France, Italy, the Bahamas, and throughout the US.
