Luis Garcia grew up surrounded by Catholic and Indigenous folk art at his family’s home in Los Angeles and ranch in Mexico. Always artistic, he made block prints in junior high and later studied silversmithing at UNM Taos. He and his wife, Cristina, travel to Mexico several times a year to meet artists in their studios, always visiting both old friends and new artisans. They value the religion, tradition, and culture embedded in the Indigenous art, and every year invite the Taos community to participate in an altar outside their shop honoring the Day of the Dead. His inspiration comes from his surroundings, from the landscape and amazing daily sunsets to the animals and creatures that call northern New Mexico their home.
