I was reborn in 2005 as an artist. Previously, I had an interesting career in journalismbut retirement couldn’t come quickly enough. I needed to make art almost as urgently as Ineeded food and drink. Painting is joy, struggle, prayer; and a celebration of the world and theimagination. My recent work has taken a few different directions. First, toward abstraction anchoredin gridded design and intense color. Then, fueled by forces I dimly understand, back to more orless representational impressions of the natural world. Perhaps it’s about a need for order andbeauty — sharpened by a climate of chaos and ugliness; and the march of time itself. That’s speculation, but more often than not, my paintings tell me what to do, not theother way around. This essential ongoing conversation has gaps but never stops for long, nourishing and propelling the work I do primarily in painting and collage. My work has been exhibited in Cambridge, Somerville, and Outer Cape Cod; featured njuried shows sponsored by the Cambridge Art Association and in solo exhibits at the TruroPublic Library, the Provincetown Commons, the Provincetown Art Association and Museum, and Berta Walker Gallery.
