Dawn L. Stringer is a self-taught Non-objective Abstract Artist from Oak Park, MI. Her father was a self-taught pianist and songwriter along with her mother’s strong appreciation for the arts influenced Dawn’s artistic talent. Dawn began painting as a hobby in 2006 and became a full-time in artist in 2015 after retiring from Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility. Dawn’s paintings are primarily comprised of acrylic on canvas or wood and use various mediums to create layers and texture. She describes her work by stating, “My paintings are created in an attempt to stimulate the viewer’s imagination and challenge their perception through rich colors and textures. I’d simply like the viewer to get lost within the beauty of the painting.” Dawn finds artistic inspiration from well-known artists such as Norman Lewis, Gerhard Richter and Jean Michel Basquiat. Dawn has been in a host of events throughout the Metro Detroit area which includes the women’s show Venus is Rising at the Tangent Gallery in Detroit, MI along with ArtPrize in Grand Rapids, MI, and Abstraction: The Infinite Human Experience is held at the Norwest Gallery of Art in Detroit, MI. She’s also exhibited at the Art Expo New York, Red Dot Miami and Spectrum Miami. Ms. Stringer was one of the 2017 Bombay Sapphire Artisan Series Finalist and her award-winning piece Love Supreme was featured at Scope Miami and the Versace Mansion during Art Basel. Most recently Ms. Stringer was a featured artist in the all-abstract show I Kan do Dat held at Rush Arts Philadelphia which was curated by international artist Danny Simmons. She was also a featured artist at The Upper Darby Art Gallery located in Upper Darby, PA for I Kan do Dat II. Dawn was also a featured artist in the abstract show Manifest at the Akwaaba Gallery in Newark, NJ. Dawn resides in Oak Park, MI, and is currently working on expanding her Eight Types of Love Series.
