Laurie Meyer has lived and painted in Charleston for nearly forty years. Following careers as a teacher and pharmaceutical sales, Laurie devoted her focus to being a professional artist in 1997. Laurie paints in watercolor and oil and recently added gouache to her resume. No matter the medium, she seeks the resonance of light and color in all her work. Laurie is a sought out oil painting instructor and has watched many of her students become professional artists in their own right. Additionally, she has led many workshops in her studio as well as in Italy, Portugal, Mexico, and other wonderful locations. In 2016, Laurie opened the first Meyer Vogl Gallery in downtown Charleston with partners Marissa Vogl and Katie Geer. In December of 2021, they opened their second location on Daniel Island. Laurie's work has been accepted into shows for the Oil Painters of America, American Impressionist Society, and National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society. Most recently, Laurie was awarded the "Best Use of Light" in a NOAPS show. Laurie lives in the beautiful Lowcountry of South Carolina with her husband Steve, studio dog, Tug, and is the mother to three daughters (including Katie Geer!) and "MorMor" to three grandchildren. ARTIST STATEMENT "Capturing light is a challenge and a thrill. Painting 'en plein air,' nature's studio is a luxury and a great teacher, but weather and time constraints mean I also paint in the indoor studio. Either way, my challenge is to interpret what I see and express it in my unique style.” Education:Ohio State University B.S. 1981 Exhibitions:2020 Solo Show "Nature Is Nurture" Meyer Vogl Gallery, Charleston, SC2020 "Why Is the Sky Blue?" group show, Meyer Vogl Gallery, Charleston, SC2019 American Impressionist Society National Juried Show, New York, NY2018 Solo Show Cooper Gallery, Lewisburg, WV2018 “Second Course” Meyer Vogl Gallery, Charleston, SC2018 “Bloom Boom Boom” Meyer Vogl Gallery, Charleston, SC2017 “Small Works Group Show” Meyer Vogl Gallery, Charleston, SC2017 “North of Calhoun Solo Show Meyer Vogl Gallery, Charleston, SC2017 Piccolo Spoleto Outdoor Art Exhibition, SC2016 “ROY G BIV-Solo Show” Meyer Vogl Gallery, Charleston, SC2016 “Duet” 2 Artist Show Meyer Vogl Gallery, Charleston, SC2015 “Hydrangeas” Solo Show Hagan Fine Art2015 “Piccolo Spoleto Outdoor Exhibition” Charleston, SC2014 “Group Show” Hagan Fine Art2014 “Piccolo Spoleto Outdoor Exhibition” Charleston, SC2013 Solo Show Wells Gallery, Charleston, SC1997-2013 Various Group and Solo Shows: Pinkney Simons Gallery, Beaufort, SC City Art Gallery, Greenville, NC Wells Gallery, Charleston & Kiawah Island Hagan Fine Art, Charleston, SCCollections:Many corporate and private collections, in the United States, Canada, India, China, Germany Awards and Acknowledgements:Piccolo Spoleto Outdoor Art Exhibition: 1st Place, 2nd Place, 3rd Place, Merit Award, Honorable Mentions over the past 12 years.Charleston Artist Guild: 1st Place, 2nd Place, 3rd Place, 4 Honorable Mentions (1997-2005).Oil Painters of American Eastern Region Exhibition 2012Naples Art Exhibitions 2010Georgetown Plein Air Event 2015 3rd Place Teaching and Lectures:2000-Current-Several lectures and presentations to community art guilds in the Southeast.2006-Current- Private studio lessons, having taught over 50 students.2007 Cortona, Italy-Taught Plein Air Workshop2008- Cortona, Italy-Taught Plein Air Workshop2009- San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, Plein Air Workshop2010-Cinque Terre, Italy Plein Air Workshop2012- The Amalfi Coast, Plein Air Workshop2014-San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, Plein Air Workshop2016-Boothbay Harbor, Maine, Plein Air Workshop2017- Ischia, Italy, Plein Air Workshop
