ACRYLIC ON CANVAS BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA "I paint what is meaningful and important to me, not just to paint a pretty picture. Something has to move me, whether it’s the awe I feel observing a grizzly bear, the joy and peace that the natural world brings, or the fun of children at play. I hope the viewer may feel some of that." Doria Moodie is a full-time artist based in Whistler, BC represented by Mountain Galleries at the Fairmont Hotels in Whistler, Banff, Victoria, and Jasper. She is a strong advocate for bears (black bears, spirit bears, grizzlies and polar bears) and has spent many weeks observing them in the wild in order to paint large, intimate portraits of them. Doria has done a number of artist residencies in some wonderful bear viewing lodges, most recently at Tweedsmuir Park Lodge near Bella Coola in Northern BC. She donates 1% of her sales and some art to the Grizzly Bear Foundation (where she is a board member) and has also supported the Audain Art Museum for 11 years with a large grizzly portrait for their annual gala live auction. Doria also paints children, especially groups of little skiers that evoke a story, and landscapes, trying for fresh perspectives on the beauty in our environment. She is an associate member (AFCA) of the Federation of Canadian Artists and a founding member of Whistler Out-of-Bounds Artists. Her work is in collections around the world.
