"I am most happy when in nature, and it is this joyful experience that ends up on my canvas when I paint. It is a challenge to grasp the essence of a place, it’s strength and beauty, but through continued explorations with brush and colour expression, something meaningful about nature’s presence is incorporated into my work. When sketching outdoors, whether in the mountains, forests, or by water, I appreciate the movements of colour that play out, like music, and the way it heightens all my senses. Every colour in nature inspires me, from subdued neutrals, to vibrant highlights anddeep tones, so I incorporate as many of them into my artwork in numerous ways. I enjoy working in watercolour, acrylics and oils as they offer various ways to manipulate the paint, with water, media or tools. Each painting is a unique expression of the moment or experience of a place I recall or know well, whether it is an immediate response, or one that takes time to build over several weeks or months. The joy-filled gestures, colours and textures within my paintings bring the viewer a new landscape to explore and enjoy."
