French, b. 1987 In 2011, Mathieu Bablet published his debut album La Belle Mort, or The Beautiful Death—a dystopian tale set in an urban environment in which humankind assesses the value of their identity in the face of the apocalypse. The following year, he contributed to DoggyBags' second volume by illustrating their story Vol Express 666. Between 2013 and 2014, Bablet wrote and illustrated the Adrastée diptych, a post-apocalyptic narrative incorporating a combination of mythologies from Greek, Indian, and Asian cultures. Shangri-La, existing among the artist's most acclaimed bodies of work, was published in the fall of 2016 by Ankama Éditions. Bablet published his next graphic novel in the summer of 2020, Carbone et Silicium, or Carbon & Silicon. In this futuristic epic, the author contemplates the line separating artificial intelligence from the unpredictable nature of humankind. Beneath his pen, Bablet imagines humanity's final moments in the wake of their struggle to survive the ecological, financial, and social catastrophes they have brought upon themselves. In addition to being one of the five finalists for the Critics' Grand Prix at the 2021 Angoulême ICF, Carbon & Silicon also won the Prix de la BD Fnac France Inter that same year.
