Dennis Wattier's art career began after he retired from teaching Industrial Technology for 30 years with the Omaha Public Schools. He draws on experiences that he used in teaching woodworking and carpentry to develop the precision needed in the sculptural and turned compositions. His travels around the United States and abroad have always included visits to galleries and museums, which influenced him in many ways, creatively and aesthetically. His goal is to create works of art that highlight his turning and carving skills in a creative manner, but also in some cases,to tell a story. He has created his own unique style and uses special techniques to create intricately designed vessels and bowls. Each vessel is individually designed and crafted, using hardwoods, which are laminated, then turned into the desired shapes. Dennis also incorporates carving in conjunction with the woodturning to create both realist and abstract designs. His work has been shown locally, as well as in venues throughout the midwest.
