Dominic Avant is a professor at Ringling College of Art and Design and an accomplished fine artist. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), where he also began teaching and working as a freelance illustrator after graduation. In 1996, Dominic was recruited by Walt Disney Feature Animation and worked on films such as Mulan, Tarzan, Emperor's New Groove, Lilo & Stitch, Brother Bear and more. Dominic’s dedication to painting from life is evident in his work, which showcases a strong sense of light, vivid color, and fluid brushwork. His passion for plein air painting and direct observation has deeply influenced his artistic style, resulting in pieces that exude both vibrancy and authenticity. His portfolio spans from small field studies to larger, multi-session works, as well as refined figurative paintings. Dominic’s exceptional talent has earned him numerous prestigious awards, including honors from the Portrait Society of America’s International Portrait Competitions, Best of Show at the Oil Painters of America (OPA) Eastern Regionals, and recognitions from Raymar Fine Art, The Artist’s Magazine, International Artist Magazine, and more.
