Born in 1959, Lee HaeGee studied Buddhist Art at Dongguk University in Seoul, Korea. For nearly four decades, he has devoted his practice exclusively to the depiction of Buddhist imagery, pursuing a singular artistic and spiritual path. Although highly respected within traditional circles, his work only became publicly available in the art market in recent years. Lee creates his paintings on silk using finely ground gold powder applied with an exceptionally delicate brush. Adhering to centuries-old Korean techniques, he prepares his pigments with traditional adhesive made from the swim bladder of the croaker fish, a material long prized for its strength and translucency. Through this meticulous process, Lee produces luminous works that honor the enduring traditions of Korean Buddhist painting while conveying a profound sense of devotion and contemplation.
