Sowemimo Daniel Oluwarotimi is a Nigerian artist based in Lagos, Nigeria. He's known for his emotive realist paintings(portraits) of vulnerable subjects, love, loss and everything in between. In these paintings, there's a poignant visual representation of calm emotional vulnerability that explains personal experiences and complexities of contemporary/modern day love, including desire, sexual politics and self-esteem as experienced by the artist and the models he meets. Sowemimo began drawing at the age of 4 after the sad experience of his mother's death. After finishing high school, he decided to study fine art at the prestigious Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, Nigeria. He's inspired by love stories, heartbreak tales, the artist's battle with anxiety and being vulnerable in today's society. These portraits are meticulously painted to convey a deep sense of poignance and subtle emotions as though the viewer is in the moment as the painting.
