“I aim to create imagery that encourages the viewer to think more deeply about the natural world. I am fascinated by the complexity and diversity of life on our planet. As a devoted bird-watcher, I believe that direct observation is critical for capturing the essence of my subject. I hope my work inspires deeper curiosity and novel discoveriesabout the complexity and variations of avian subjects. I also hope to bring attention to the reality that man and nature are interdependent.” Kimberly Beck is a fine artist who specializes in painting birds and wildlife. Upon graduating from The University of Michigan with a degree in English Literature, she studied drawing and illustration at The California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, California.As an illustrator in the 80’s, she created bird-themed products for The Nature Company and other print companies that sold her work nationally. In 2008, she began painting in oil while participating in open studios and figure painting sessions at the historic Palette& Chisel Academy of Art in Chicago. In 2020, she and her husband, Dan, left their empty nest near the Indiana Dunes National Park and relocated to the desert of Southwest Utah where they have enjoyed learning an entirely different ecosystem. Kimberly’s avian-themed paintings have been juried into the prestigious international“Birds in Art” exhibition at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Museum of Art, Wausau,Wisconsin (2012-2016, 2018-20, 2022-24), selected for the museum’s National Tours, and are part of the Museum’s permanent collection.
