Detlev Nitschke was born in Germany in 1935. In 1954 he graduated from school as a lithographer. He went on to continue his studies at Meisterschule Fur Druck & Graphik. He later served as the director of a graphic company until 1969 when he opened his own studio. His work for galleries in Germany and Europe was inspired by traveling around Europe and Russia. He favors spontaneous painting (plein-air painting), design and illustration of art maps, calendars, and books. He is heavily impressed and inspired by American Impressionism. Nitschke is a member of the Society of Berlin Painters of Architecture One-Man Exhibitions. He has also done several group exhibitions in Europe and in the US in such places as New York City, St. Louis, Boston, Cape Cod, and Nantucket.
