I enjoy working in series, repeating ideas in hopes that a moment in time or a place might become something else through the meditation of painting. Fleeting, simple, ordinary circumstances can be loaded with emotions. Sometimes it's joy, sometimes it's fear, or a tension-filled combination of both. My current goal is to freeze that so we can look longer. My process is always changing and I don't think I have a technique, nor do I want one any time soon. I love the exploration of mark making, adding and subtracting, even though it can be excruciating when you want to go back to something you had. Sometimes a piece doesn't call for that level of physicality, and maybe that day painting water like it's calligraphy does the trick. Quieting the resistance between what I'm trying to make and what spills out onto the canvas is the struggle.
