‘My paintings offer a glimpse at the everyday world around me… those things I see that transport me back in time, while still being about the present moment.’ Kate Ryan is a contemporary realist painter whose work depicts everyday scenes or objects that evoke a time past, particularly the mid-century. She combines detailed realism and abstract form, while painting equally from reference and memory. The outcome: intimate portrayals of the ordinary, now seen anew. After receiving an art degree at Bridgewater State University, Ryan taught art in Ann Arbor, MI for 10 years. She moved to Provincetown to pursue painting after studying at PIAI. An exhibiting artist since 2002, Ryan has had numerous solo exhibitions and her work is widely collected. In addition to her long history of representation in Provincetown, she has also shown with galleries in Boston, Palm Springs and Michigan. In 2014, Ryan’s artwork became part of the permanent collection at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum. Kate resides in Provincetown, MA
