Sarah Verardo is a contemporary oil painter based in Providence, Rhode Island. Raised along the New England coast, Sarah returns to the ocean as a measure of home and as a place of reflection. After fourteen years in New York City, she came back to Rhode Island and engaged the shoreline with new attention, treating the coast as a spiritual touchstone. Through still life and seascape painting, Sarah honors the ways landscape can steady a life in both difficult and celebratory seasons.Sarah earned a BA in Government from Georgetown University and maintains a parallel career in digital marketing. She is an Exhibiting Artist at the Providence Art Club and an Elected Artist at the Art League of Rhode Island. Her work has appeared in juried exhibitions with the Art League of Rhode Island and the California Art League, and it is included in private collections in the United States and internationally. In the studio, Sarah works in oil, building forms through delicate layers that reveal fine transitions of light and texture. Shells, flower petals, beach stones, and coastal water become subjects for close looking. “I consider my work to be an expression of gratitude for where I am from and also a reflection of where I am today,” she says. “Whether it’s a painting of surfers waiting patiently in the water, or an intricate study of one seemingly unexceptional shell, my work is meant as a gesture of appreciation for the ordinary pieces of time and place.”Sarah paints in successive thin passages to echo the natural strata of a stone or the translucency of a petal. That sustained focus functions as a meditative practice shaped by grief, awareness, and renewed attention to spirituality. The finished works invite the same pause, asking viewers to notice ordinary pieces of time and place and to be more mindful of their surroundings. Her paintings sit within contemporary New England art and reflect a deep connection to coastal New England.Learn more about Sarah’s artistic process on Radio Maine.
