Andreas von Huene is a Maine sculptor whose work in stone, wood, and metal unites engineering precision with artistic imagination. His sculptures invite discovery, often conveying movement and vitality. Whether figurative or abstract, each piece reflects his interest in breathing life into material.Raised between Massachusetts and Maine, Andreas grew up immersed in art and culture. A lifelong singer and musician, he often draws on rhythm and harmony as guiding principles in the studio. Those influences echo in his sculpture, where balance and cadence shape both form and feeling. After earning engineering degrees from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and Stanford University, he returned to Maine to establish his Woolwich studio. There, his practice continues to evolve through invention, collaboration, and a commitment to exploration. His contributions to the Schoodic International Sculpture Symposium and the Maine Sculpture Trail highlight his role in Maine’s creative community. Collaboration with colleagues and assistants is central to his process, as are the new endeavors that fuel what he calls his “grand adventure.” “People say I’m always doing figurative work,” he notes. “When you’re making it, it feels abstract. Maybe the figurative part is in developing the gesture and the pose—the dynamic aspect of life.”Alongside monumental stone and wood pieces, Andreas has explored kinetic forms that shift with balance and gravity. Each project—intimate or large-scale—extends his ongoing journey of imagination, invention, and connection.Learn more about his creative journey on Radio Maine.
