YAN LABOISSONNIEREOriginally from Quebec city, Yan has collaborated with several companies and artisans in the fieldsof commercial and cultural exhibition, thematic, scenic, theatrical and television decor in Quebec asan illustrator, designer and technical draftsman and carpenter of workshop following his training inPresentation Design. Since 2001, he has been teaching at the college level in this field in addition tobeing a co-founder of Art Tandem since 2008. This artist is represented in a gallery in Halifax andQuebec and he has won several distinctions over the years, including in 2023 2rd place in thecompetition of works of art from Diffusion culturelle de Lévis and the jury's favorite prize from theSymposium Village en arts in 2021.Artistic Approach:For several years, I felt the desire to take my "commercial" illustration work towards a more artisticand creative momentum. This is how at the end of 2008, I extended my art towards this spontaneitymore accessible to all.My creative process begins with the sketch of a light texture using mortar applied with a spatula.Then, the superimpositions of gouache and acrylic allow me to achieve a depth of coloring withnuance. I proceed by rubbing and wiping in order to age the surface and make it vaporous.Sometimes using the rag or my fingers.I create "fantastic" panoramas suggesting the infinity of sky and water by studying the contrasts oflight and color at different light intensities. Is it before or after a turmoil, an appeasement or simply amoment of pure plenitude? I offer the observer to interpret this place, this moment in connection withhis experience and his memories in order to appropriate the work and define his own symbolism.
