Jami Tobey, born in Corvallis, Oregon, is a celebrated American contemporary painter known for her vibrant and dynamic landscapes and tree paintings. Growing up in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Jami was deeply influenced by her father, Gene Tobey, an acclaimed Southwest sculptor. Her early exposure to various artistic styles and techniques in her father's studio laid the foundation for her unique artistic journey. Jami's work is characterized by its vivid colors, intricate details, and the use of acrylics and metallic inks to create a stained-glass effect. Her paintings often depict the natural world with a sense of movement and energy, capturing the shifting light and big skies of the Southwest. Jami has been recognized for her ability to evoke emotion and energy through her art, making her a standout in the contemporary art scene. After studying art and English at Western State College in Colorado, Jami moved to California, where she balanced her early career as a third-grade teacher with her passion for painting. Motherhood brought a new focus to her work, especially after her oldest child was diagnosed with autism. This personal journey influenced her art, providing a deeper emotional resonance. In addition to her artistic endeavors, Jami is a full-time Engineer at Abbott Laboratories and a full-time fine artist. Her work has been featured in numerous galleries, including Exposures International Gallery in Sedona, Arizona, Tierra Mar Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Gallery Sausalito in Sausalito, California, and Gallery at Marina Square in Morro Bay, CA. She was named Southwest Art Magazine's Artist to Watch in 2006 and has continued to gain acclaim for her radiant impressionistic paintings.Today, Jami Tobey lives and works in California, where she continues to create art that inspires and captivates audiences worldwide.
