ARTIST STATEMENT Julie Duff was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba and moved to Newfoundland in 1988. Through the vibrant art community here and instruction, a passion evolved to capture the soul of surrounding landscapes primarily in the acrylic and watercolour mediums. By combining a colourful expressive style with imagination, memory and a strong sense of light, and shadow Julie is able to transport viewers to a scene of beauty and tranquility inspired by nature. Her favourite artists are the impressionists, particularly Monet. She is truly inspired by Georgia O’Keefe. She has participated in several painting excursions and workshops in Paris, Italy, Florida, and Maine. Julie is a past executive member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Art Association. Julie’s first solo exhibition “In Bloom” held at the Peter Lewis Gallery in October 2012, was named as one of the “Visual Art Top Ten in 2012” in Newfoundland.
