Robert Lansden (b. 1959 Earlington, KY)Lives and works in Norwalk, CT. Bachelor of Fine Art, The Atlanta College of Art 1989, Master of Library and Information Science, Palmer School of Library and Information Science, New York 1999, Master of Fine Art, Tulane University 2005. I became fascinated with repetition while working as a technical support librarian, my first real job after art school. Repetition is soothing and creates order out of chaos. In graduate school I listened to the lectures of Joseph Campbell during my studio time. Through him I learned that existence is defined in the field of time by pairs of opposites. The ideas of spacetime and nonduality coupled with my love of repetition began to inform my work. Sometimes my work is created by the use of self generated algorithms based on pairs of opposites. Other work is influenced by Tantra drawings and Buddhist philosophy. Specific bodies of work have also been inspired by the music that is constantly playing in my studio.
