REID A. CHRISTMAN Reid A. Christman was born in Brooklyn NY ( 1948). After serving in the United States Navy, he studied Art and received scholarships from the Art Students League of N.Y., National Academy of Design ( N.Y.) and Salmagundi Club ( N.Y.) He was raised on Long Island, N.Y., where he was influenced by the beauty of the coastal areas, such as Sag Harbor and Greenport. Reid now lives in Vero Beach, Florida where scenery along the Indian River and beautiful beaches provide inspiration for his work."As a young boy I grew up around boats. my family always had a boat and I spend a lot of time helping out with care and maintenance. We traveled by boat around the North and South shore of Long Island, to the end of Montauk Point. We also went up through the Finger Lakes of New York state and New Hampshire on Lake Champlain. My love of the shore and the mountains is with me to this day because of the influence of growing up around the water and the beach.I entered the US Navy in 1967 and traveled to the Virgin Islands, Galapogos Islands, and Brazil. After leaving the Navy in the 1970's, I enrolled at the Art Student's League and the national Academy of Design. This is where my interest in painting started. Through the years, I have cultivated a wide range of interest in subject matter and don't limit myself if something inspires me.”
