Kenny Ulysses Grant is a New York City and Connecticut-based gestural abstraction artist. Typically employing latex and acrylic paints on primed canvases, he articulates his vision with just about anything he can get his hands on - be it a stick, ground pegs or hammer.First introduced to art by his mother, a single mom in Baltimore, she planted a seed in her young son that would come to blossom later in his adult life. Unfortunately, after struggling with mental health and substance issues for most of her life, his mother died on January 6th, 2022 to a Fentanyl overdose. While incredibly heartbreaking, the loss of his mom along with his own journey of sobriety, served as powerful catalysts to share and express his journey through his action art. In addition to trying to help people confronted by the insidious nature of substance abuse, he is a strong advocate for mental health. Kenny hopes his art and example will be seen as testament to a satisfying, sober life. Artist's Statement I find complete peace in the CHAOS of my paintings. These artworks are meant for everyone. I also see the controlled steps and placement within the action of my art. They are love, joy, and passion, celebratory and thoughtful, but they have also allowed me to find solace in the “womb of pain”. Also, some being Expressions of pain themselves.
