Andrew Kaslow loved the natural world and the deeply wooded edge of Maryland's Loch Raven Reservoir, where he tended a garden and watched bat boxes at night. A master finisher, musician and designer, he combined his artistic talent with his zest for the organic when he created rare wood top tables in the shape of grand pianos. Andy’s greatest efforts were his high end finish art case designs for Steinway and other piano manufacturers. The spray booth combined with hard living cut Andy’s life very short and he left us usable sculpture — bases of hand forged, smoothed and polished steel topped by ribbon mahogany, curly maple, sinewy sliced pear, straight line cherry, white oak, and other tree bisections he collected over his lifetime. Throughout the gallery floor, these are functional art, and exceptional workmanship. We have converted his best prototypes into one of a kind pieces, with thanks to Mondrian, Mother Nature and others who inspired this unfinished work. Proceeds from sales of Andy’s work will help Washington and Baltimore artists with small bills, including art supplies.
