Catherine Ruiz is an emerging contemporary artist who works across a range of media, including oil paint, acrylic, gouache, found materials, and ceramics. With a focus on experimentation and storytelling, she creates work that is rich in narrative and invites viewers to create their own dialogue with her work. Born in 1993, Ruiz's interest in art began at a young age, and she has been pursuing her passion for creativity ever since. She completed her time at Arizona State University with two Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees in Painting and Ceramics with a minor in French in 2023, where she honed her skills in a range of media and developed a deep appreciation for the power of materials to convey emotion and meaning. Ruiz's paintings are known for their bold use of color and texture, which create a sense of depth and movement on the canvas. Her mixed media works incorporate a range of materials, from paper to thread, and are often collaged together to create a layered, multidimensional effect. In addition to her paintings and mixed media works, Ruiz is also a ceramicist, creating sculptural pieces that blur the line between art and functional object. Her ceramic works are often inspired by function, history, and nature, and feature organic shapes and textures that reflect the beauty and complexity of the natural world.
