Growing up in Oklahoma, Laine Nixon found refuge in the magnificent sunsets and storms of the Great Plains. There she discovered her love of the purely aesthetic, wordless experience that she expresses through her artwork. Working in various media including oil, acrylic, watercolor, and colored markers, Nixon focuses on color, balance, pattern, and strict systems, to find the balancing point between visual perception and the physical object – encouraging an oscillation between the two. This wavering, this movement back and forth, takes the artist in and out of her own versions of “what is” and “what could be.” It is an homage to the "bigger picture," which, for Nixon, is hope and possibility.
